Rounding the cape…

After Yardie Creek, we headed up to Tantabiddi – which is pretty much a mooring area for the whale shark dive boats, and a boat ramp. The weather was a little grim, grey skies and rain, so we moped around inside, and tried to catch up on a bit of school work and endless monopoly games.

After a 3 night stay at Tantibiddi, we did our tidal calculations for rounding the NW cape favourably, and got sailing in around 20kn of breeze. We headed fairly close to the reef most of the way to the Cape, and went on the outside of North Reef. The wind died on us as we approached North Reef, so we ended up motor sailing through the tidal rips, and thankfully had quite an easy pass.

We anchored outside the yacht club in about 4m of water – sandy ground – but probably not a great anchorage when the wind picks up from the east to 25kn. Boo. Up came the anchor at 7am- the seas chucking us into the marina where we tied up against a lovely floating pontoon – the calm state allowing me to brew a much needed morning coffee. Aaaaahhh.

However, marinas usually = work, so now time for the washing, washing, washing, sail repairs, reprovisioning, steel polishing, washdown etc etc etc.
