Kimberley Catch Up: let’s start at Silvergull Creek

We are alive!! And well. Made it to the lovely Darwin after a fantastic trip through the Kimberley region. What a magical place! And one we will remember for a long time to come. We last wrote from Hidden Island – which seems like such a long time ago – so where do we start in updating the whole trip??? In short – apart from no surf for Stefan – we could all go back and do it again! So lets start where we left you all hanging…

After Hidden Island, we stopped briefly at Coppermine Creek, and then headed toward the next creek: Silvergull. We had a brisk sail here with 20-25knESE winds powering us through.

We had our first dose of a fresh water dip here – a fresh water spring feeds a water tank that was built a while ago by mining companies operating at Koolan and Cockatoo Islands. This is also the home of the famed ‘Squatters Arms’ – set up by Phil and Marion Wray who cruised here in the mid ’90’s. Price of a swim? A six pack. Scotty is now caretaker of the lease at Silvergull, and we had a lovely cooling dip – joined by Fiona and Jason from ‘Kinetic Energy’.
